Lime Extract Review

(More customer reviews)I first bought this lime extract to flavor "home-made" seltzer water without the use of sugar or real lime juice in July of 2009. This extract has been very easy to use - about 6cc per liter of seltzer. I've gotten lots of compliments on the taste of the lime-infused seltzer and I'm no longer throwing out perfectly good bottles after just one use.

The shipment from JR Mushrooms was prompt... two bottles arrived in a well-padded box with lots of bubble-wrap and foam peanuts to keep them safe and sound. The bottles themselves are dark brown glass (presumably to shield the juice from the sun) and have well-fitting plastics caps. All in all, I was very happy with this purchase and the quality of the product, as of July 2009.

Recently (August 2010 - that is how long the initial 32 oz order of the old extract lasted), I ordered another set of extract. Sadly, the supplier of extract to JRMushroom has changed and so has the formulation - the extract now arrives in a clear plastic bottle, not the dark brown glass bottle of 2009. I am not convinced that the present version if terpeneless, as there is a fairly bitter aftertaste. Amit at OliveNation/JRMushrooms was very nice to refund the unopened bottle (I had bought 2) and also informed me that he is negotiating a new supplier for the stuff.

So here is what I suggest for any extract order over the internet: Order a small sample bottle ($6.5) and make sure it fits your flavor expectations before ordering a larger bottle. Plus, before you re-order, contact the seller and make sure that the flavor/supplier hasn't changed. I am a bit disappointed that Amit has not updated the Amazon web pages to reflect the new packaging, which would have been a good clue not to go ahead with a large-bottle purchase but to sample the present product first. Live and learn, I guess.

These juices are truly delicious, with none of that skunky quality of the junk you see everywhere, and can be used in baking, sauces, on fish, etc. Throw out those plastic squeeze fruits and get yourself one of these in each flavor. Keeps about a year after opening. Would make a great stocking stuffer--hopefully I'll remember that next year!

Mariani Berries 'N Cherries, 6-Ounce Units (Pack of 12) Review

I bought this product thinking it would be of the same caliber as Mariani cherries, which contains "dried cherries and sugar."I'm not a fan of white sugar, nor do I buy or use it in my home, but at least it's the only other ingredient.

After I received my delivery I read the ingredients for this product- "Mariani Berries 'N Cherries, 6-Ounce Units (Pack of 12)", as I have done with everthing food item have purchased over the past 25+ years, and I found the following quite disturbing!

In addition to the fruit there are the following ingredients:1)"Sugar" (who knows what kind. I can only assume it's refinded white sugar, but it's not as bad as the following 3), 2) "High Fructose Corn Syrup" (Nasty stuff this is!), 3) "Corn Syrup" (More nasty stuff and also useless), and 4) "Sucrose" (also known as "Splenda" with the Blueberries, and linked to health problems more than the previous 3 ingredients).ALL 4 of these are unhealthy and should be baned from all foods!I was looking for something natural and healthy. There's 'nothing' natural and healthy about white "Sugar", "High Fructose Corn Syrup", "Corn Syrup", and especially "Sucrose" (better know as "Splenda")

There is quite a bit of information available that proves these 4 ingredients are unhealthy.Search each one, or search "artificial sweeteners", and you will be surprised at the negative effects these have on the health and well being of both humans and animals, despite what the manufacturers claim.

If 'all' of the ingredients had been listed in the Amazon product derscription I would NEVER have bought this product!

I will NEVER by this product again, nor will I ever buy Mariani "Wild Blueberries" again!They contain the same 4 NASTY ingredients as the "Berries 'N Cherries" product does!And they taste awful!NOTHING like real wild blueberries!

Mariani:You should have left nature alone, not tampered with the taste of fresh fruit, and only added some sunflower oil or Vitamin E.

P.S.I wonder if "High Fructose Corn Syrup", "Corn Syrup", and "Sucrose" are Kosher?

The only thing I don't like is that it smells sort of like splenda or medicine a little BUT the taste is good. And there is no splenda or anything like that in here.
