(More customer reviews)My favorite dates are Medjool but these organic Pavich Deglet Noors are delightful and a great bargain from Amazon Grocery. I always keep several cans on hand.As a raw foodie I consume a lot of dates.I just love them ~ right out of the can as a delicious, nutritious snack or even as a complete wholesome meal with celery or cucumber.Of course dates are used in many of my favorite raw vegan recipes as well, especially insmoothies or desserts.

Considering how many organic dates I use on a regular basis these Pavich organic dates purchased from Amazon save me a lot of money.I would love to eat Medjool over Deglet Noor any day but Medjools are just too expensive for my food budget.The Pavich dates are consistently good.There is the occasional tough-skinned date or one that isn't quite as sweet as the others but still I have to give Pavich dates 5 stars for overall quality and value.

I don't know how people did it 20 years ago. I carry the bars with me and it's a perfect snack during the day or in a pinch when I can't eat a regular meal. (More customer reviews)These dates are wonderful!They are moist on the inside and deliciously sweet/complex/creamy/caramelly in flavor. I've bought dates in the past that have a "papery" outer layer that is unpleasant; these do not have that issue.These are NOT the dates you find in the baking section of your grocery store - nothing wrong with those for baking, but these are much better & good for snacking or eating as they are.

I like these for dessert.I have a 1/2 Cup of plain Greek yogurt (Fage 2% is my favorite) & 1 or 2 of these dates.My sweet tooth is completely satisfied by the dates and the yogurt is like eating pudding; delicious and healthy.Also great as an appetizer: just make a slit in the date, take the pit out & put in goat cheese, blue cheese, mascarpone or any creamy cheese.Warm them under the broiler for about 3 minutes or skip the broiler & eat at room temp.Or go all out & wrap bacon or prosciutto around the stuffed date & broil for about 4-5 minutes, turning them after about 3 minutes.The combination of salty and sweet is delicious.

The package has the "Packed Date" and the "Best By Date" on the back.I received my dates on 5/22/10....they were packed on 3/15/10 and will be best by 9/15/10.

I have not found it necessary to store the dates in the refrigerator and I prefer to eat them at room temperature.I just store them in an airtight container in the cupboard after opening the package; of course they aren't lasting long in my house!

The plastic container is recyclable:1 PETE

UPDATE 10/2010:I've now ordered these dates 3 times.This last time, I noticed the dates are not as nice as the first 2 times...not bad, just not fabulous.They are a bit more papery skinned & there are dry "lines"/patches on some.Also, the packer has stopped putting "Packed On" dates on the packaging.Now there is just a "Best By" date.I prefer the old way because then I know how old they are when I get them.The inside of the date is still very good, creamy, delicious.Perhaps these dates are older?Or maybe weather conditions have been poor for the grower?These are an agriculture product grown organically so weather can be an issue.I'll order another batch when I finish these & let you know how they are.

(More customer reviews)My husband has a serious thing for dates since I bought him several packages of Caramel Naturale dates from our local grocer. Of course, the grocer is now inept at purchasing more of these dates so I had to head out to trusty Amazon to find a suitable replacement.

These dates were very good. They were large, sweet, plump and just like the other brand of Medjool dates. Of course now Amazon is short on the other dates so I went with the dates from the Bergen Nut company and paid more and was seriously disappointed in the quality of the dates.

So when they are in stock my suggestion would be to stock up on a couple packs if you are really into eating dates daily. I find myself missing these little beauties now that we have run out and they are worth the price as they are very healthy and loaded with vitamins and minerals. Speaking of price - if you are wondering - yes these are a solid value compared to others. The packages are large, larger than the Caramel Naturale dates I had been buying.

These are also delicious over ice cream, search around for some recipes. I know Anthony Bourdain did a show where they showed chopped dates in a milkshake which looked sublime..:)

Wholeheartedly recommend!
And as a side note, if you purchase from Amazon and ever have issue with the quality of a purchase CALL them! They have the best CS on earth (and I have been shopping online for 12 years now so I know) and they want to make right if you are displeased.

So many people I know don't like dates.If I'd been introduced to the non-Dromedary dates which seem to be the only ones available in the grocery stores today, I probably wouldn't want to eat them either.And none of my recipes would ever taste right.

Dates are a regular ingredient in my baked goods and I use them all year round.Last week when I tried to buy whole, pitted dates at Wal-Mart, I was told by the grocery manager that she only orders the whole dates at Christmas time, and even then she only orders a small supply (and they're not Dromedary).When her supply runs out on the shelves, she's out and doesn't order more.So much for my stuffed dates, and pumpkin date breads we eat and enjoy all year long.

I was surprised and delighted to find Dromedary dates out here on Amazon.At first I went into sticker shock, but then I compared the quality and taste of Dromedary dates to the dry, not-sticky, strange-tasting dates I bought at the grocery store last week.I look at it this way; there is typically a price difference, sometimes substantial, between name-brand groceries and the less-expensive generic ones.The same goes for naturally-grown vs. genetically-altered produce.So, my sticker shock subsided and I'm back to baking my family's favorite recipes with the dates we've known and loved since I started baking over 40 years ago.
