These breads are manufactured by a company in Massachusetts called Dimitria Delights.You can bet I shot off a harsh complaint to them immediately.
Used to be a five-star dessert, but not after my latest experience.

(More customer reviews)I am addicted to panforte, the traditional Tuscan Christmas fruit cake, I have even made Nick Malgieri's recipe at home with great success!
I have tried most of the brands on amazon, and when I can find it.
I find Maribisi is the top producer of panforte, their panfortes are loaded with Tuscan nuts and fruits and truly are the best quality.
My favorite is the margherita, however, recently I tried the date and almond cake, which was excellent.

I wait every October for the stuff to be shipped to the States.
Get it while it's fresh!

Claxton fruitcakes really are GOOD.They don't have the icky citron pieces... just the good cherries and pineapple bits, along with nuts and dense, sweet cake.The flavor and texture is a perfect blend.And the best part is, they sell for $2.99 at the local grocery stores.If you know anyone in the southeast, ask them to mail you a couple of these instead of paying these high online prices.

My Brit husband loves this one by Walkers.Believe me when I say it was the best fruitcake I have ever tasted.It is a rich, moist dense cake packed with raisens.None of those icky plastic apple, cherry or pineapple pieces that dominate an American one.

Rather on the expensive side esp when you add in shipping/handling but once a year makes it a true holiday treat.

I always have from the first piece I ever tried at our church's fruitcake make/bake/sale (they're fun to make, too. Especially in large quantities!). I like them dark, light, medium as long as they're on my plate. But I have to admit, I like the cake part to be a bit moist, not dry and grainy like these (remind me of Scottish fruit bread, actually. The taste is very good, the candied fruit and large pecans are tasty too. But the cake is dry...
I also bought one for my Father-in-Law... we'll see how he rates it.
