La Vie Les Citrons, Naturally Flavoured Lemon Drops - 5 tins Review

(More customer reviews)The title above refers not only to a semi-obscure Damon Runyan-based movie with Bob Hope (we ALL knew that), but to these classic lemon drops with a truly international pedigree:

Made in Spain; owned by the French(Cadbury France, located at 143 Boulevard Romain Rolland, Paris; imported by New Jersey's own "Euro-American Brands," Paramus, NJ07652.

All the way from Paris to your local candy seller or movie theater (which is where I experieced my first taste of La Vie en Lemon).They were everything a lemon drop should be: A sugary entrance, developing into a deeply satisfying, soul-stirring essence of pure lemon. The mouth-watering joy of the lemon drop is seductive and addictive, and I am nearly certain that sucking on these golden gems made Kurosawa's "Savage Dogs" even more enjoyable.

They're hard candies. but not so hard that you couldn't cheat and bite into one, breaking it up into ten or so smaller candies, zig-zagging around your mouth like offshoots from a single magnificent fireworks explosion.

One 2-ounce tin lasted longer than the 2 hours or so of Kurosawa's brilliant detective drama, one of his first with Toshiro Mifune, who once again delivers a compelling performance.Although the packaging is a bit precious, there's nothing pretentious about the taste of Les Citrons, and as for value, these drops are the working man or woman's workhorse.They're far less expensive than other candy (to say nothing of popcorn), and their staying power is extraordinary.

Still, this vendor charges more than some others, and with the added shipping fee one may wish to purchase theseat a local outlet (or occupying it until your lemon drop demands are met). If you're serious about your lemon drops, tt's Paris 1968 all over again.

Nutritional Information per Package (30 pieces; you could try to eat the suggested serving size of 3 drops, but I find this highly unlikely). 240 calories, no fat or sodium, 60 grams carbohydrates, 60 grams of sugar, no protein, and no trace of food allerges. Sugar, corn syrup, citric acid, natural flavor, and tumoric for color. THh lemon-decorated little tin adds a touch of Europe to any room, and is ideal for holding cuff links, tickets, keys, small, delicate make-up products, or quarters for the laundry.To paraphrase the great Margaret Dumont:
"Les Citrons, Toujours...Les Citrons!"

These really do keep changing colors while you eat them just like in the movie, and they do last a very long time. The only minor drawback is that they are not the same strange shape as the one in the movie, but the common round shape instead. They do not have gum inside like a gumball, but are candy all the way, good fruity flavor too.

(More customer reviews)These tins contain two flavors of small spherical hard candies.Most tins seem to have about twice as many Kiwi (?) candies as they do Pomegranate (?) ones.I wish they came in equal proportions, as my favorite combination is to put one of each into my mouth at the same time - they are wonderful complementary flavors.However, the fun of this tin is the variety - you can try two different single flavors, or the combo from one part of the day to another.A tad expensive, but worth it in these days of ever-fewer hard candy flavor choices.

All of these product listings are for the same product, although there are some minor differences, most price, quantity and seller.This review, which covers all six listings, is 5 stars for the product - some of the listings deserve less and I'll tell you why.B000F8GWR2 is for twelve 7 ounce packages (5.25 lbs), B001ASEWQE is for a 1.2 pound tub, B0017D3TJS is a 17 ounce plastic, lidded bowl; the others are 5 pound bags.

B001ASEWQE and B0017D3TJS have only one thing going for it: it comes in a tub.But you have bowls, right?So, the tub's not exciting and the price there is too high when you factor in shipping.When shipping is charged by weight, it matters that the listing for B000NMG2LQ claims its shipping weight as 7 pounds, while the rest of the 5 pound packages say 6 - unless the box weighs over a pound, 6 is correct and the renegade 7 pounder is just dipping into your pocket.Still it's B000HROH2I that is really ripping you off, with $17.93 in shipping charges.The best deal turns out to be straight from Amazon, with B000F8GWR2 showing me $8.53 in shipping - and the potential for free shipping.Of the 6, only the one from Amazon makes any sense to buy as a consumer; the others might make sense to a wholesaler, although I can't see how - the best price is the best price!And, of course, look into the prices yourself because they're subject to change and by the time you read this, they might be completely different.

Jolly Rancher candies, particularly the original hard candy flavors, are great.The flavors are strong enough so that each flavor is distinct, unlike so many other candies.Watermelon tastes like watermelon, cherry like cherry - these things are literally mouth-watering, in the best way.Individual wrapping keeps them clean when little hands dig for their personal favorite.Personally, I've been stocking up on them as part of my plan to quit smoking; it'll certainly make quitting a delicious experience, especially as my taste buds recover.

One warning is that these are not the bigger 1 oz. size sold at some stores but the normal size Tic Tac box (.63 oz) which is still a pretty good price especially if your stores stop carrying them like ours did!

Try them before you buy a pack of 24 but we (my mom and I) both love these! :) I tried the Mango and melon mix (Tictac Flat Tray Melon Mango, Size: 24) too but these are definitely a better combo!

(More customer reviews)Tried these as an experiment.It was a bit random that I found them, and they looked like something that would be fun to try out.And I have to say, they were actually quite good.I offered some to my Mother and Grandmother and my Mother hated it, but my Grandmother said it was different and ate it.

I'm giving this 4 Stars because, even though I loved them, some in my family didn't.So some shoppers may not enjoy it.

The taste is a bit bitter at first, but once you get passed the unfamiliar taste you're good to go.Enjoy!
