Royal Family Japanese Style Mochi Rice Cake Cookie Sampler Pack (Matcha, Purple Yam, Peanut, Red Bean, Seasame) - 30 Piece -- Fresh Arrival! Review

Royal Family Japanese Style Mochi Rice Cake Cookie Sampler Pack - 30 Piece -- Fresh Arrival

These are the best I've had in the U.S. If you crave good mochi, get these. The mochi is soft and fresh, the fillings are very tasty. I especially like the peanut and sesame flavors. As I write this, I note that this sampler is not available. I hope that changes soon: I need to replenish my stock.

By the way, my job is not a nine-to-five sit-in-the-office sort. One or two of these will keep me on my feet and full of energy without sugar let-down or carb crash. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Yuzu Juice - 5.06 Oz Review

Yuzu Juice - 5.06 Oz
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit, eaten during the winter, sometimes translated as "citron."It has a very unique and luxurious taste.I have one cookbook that attempts to replicate the flavor by combining grapefruit, lemon and lime juice, but it just doesn't work.

I got addicted to cooking with yuzu when I lived in Japan, as it adds a special touch to many dishes. The juice isn't used as often as the aromatic peel, but even just splashing some of grilled fish adds a really nice layer.

The fruit is ubiquitous and cheap in Japan, costing no more than lemons and considerably less than limes. There are some growers in California, but the fruit is still too obscure to show up even at specialty grocery stores.Because of that, even this small bottle of juice is going to cost quite a bit of cash.I have seen it sell for somewhat cheaper at local Asian specialty stores, but if this is your only access to the product at least it is available!

You can get the yuzu flavor in the peppery pesto-like Yuzu Kosho, which is a must in my kitchen. The yuzu flavored soy-sauce ponzu is also available for less than the pure juice. (Although check the label. Sometimes ponzu is flavored with another Japanese fruit, sudachi, rather than yuzu.)

But be careful.Once you go yuzu, you won't be going back.

Product Description:
Yuzu is a sour Japanese citrus fruit, used both for its juice and its aromatic rind. The yuzu (which is about the size of a tangerine) has an aroma and flavor that is distinct from any other citrus fruit, somewhat akin to a cross between grapefruit and lime.Traditionalists will insist that many Japanese dishes are not authentic without this rare and hard to find juice!

Bull-Dog - Vegetable & Fruit Tonkatsu Sauce 10.1 Fl. Oz. Review

Bull-Dog - Vegetable & Fruit Tonkatsu Sauce 10.1 Fl. Oz.
Average Reviews:

I learned to love Bull Dog Tonkatsu sauce while I was living in Japan. There was a small deli/grill just outside my local train station that sold set meals of tempura and tonkatsu. (For those who may not know, tonkatsu is a breaded, deep fried pork cutlet. The sauce is designed to garnish this delicacy.) I used to pick some up on my way home from work, stamping my feet to keep warm as I trudged up the interminable hill that led to my apartment. I bought this sauce at the local grocery store and kept it on hand for just such occasions!

To the previous reviewer who compared the flavor to that of nutmeg: Bravo! you almost nailed it:) I have a home made version of tonkatsu sauce I cobble together as a clone. It calls for a significant amount of allspice and clove, as well as a generous splash of sake. If you Google for recipes you can experiment yourself, if you're so inclined. But then, the good folks over at Bull Dog may object to my counter productive views--sorry folks! :)

In closing, I want to urge you to visit Japan and try tonkatsu for yourselves! I had a wonderful time during the two years I lived there! Here's a treasure hunt for you: there is a restaurant specializing in tonkatsu to be found on the top floor of the mall that encompasses the bullet train station in Kyoto. Give that place a try for an unbeatable taste of Japanese cuisine; the view is fantastic! I recommend it highly. Bon appetit!:)
