Bought cherimoyas from Melissa's via Amazon.com in early Sept 04. Ordered with express shipping. In retrospect, I should have saved my money and gone with regular shipping, as the fruit was so unripe it would have endured any amount of transit unscathed and emerged just as inedible.

ONE of the fruit showed signs, when the order arrived, of being about to ripen. I squeezed it, it yielded slightly, thought I'd take a chance and taste it, as the others would surely ripen soon. Cherimoyas are reputed to be soft and custardy inside; the one I opened had the texture of an unripe nectarine although it had a pleasant smell. None of the others ever came close even to that level of under ripeness. They remained rock hard and resinous; when opened, the interior was hard, rubbery even, with a latexy sap. By ever I mean, more than a MONTH. It seems likely that the fruit were picked far too early to ever ripen properly.

You may have better luck at another time of year; if so please describe your experience! These bad (unripe) cherimoyas were from September 2004 and the stickers said "grown in Chile".
